The Mission of The People’s Shelter of St. James AME Church is helping homeless & hurting people through God’s love in Jesus Christ while walking alongside people experiencing homelessness, poverty, addictions, or other life challenges.

Warm shelter and loving community to vulnerable people
Overnight warming shelter is open when the temperatures drop below 32 degrees for 2+ nights. Due to COVID, we are housing people in local hotels.
For those who need our help:
Our intake hours are 2-4pm when the predicted temperatures will drop below 32 degrees for two or more nights in a row.
Call 573-382-4964 for instructions. There is paperwork to fill out. ID is required. We will make a reservation for a hotel room, if available.
For those who want to help:
We need help in providing meals for our people in hotels. You can volunteer to provide food and/or deliver the food to each hotel room. Please see the volunteer page.
